Dr. Mike Amaranthus

Mike Amaranthus, Ph.D. is adjunct associate professor at Oregon State University and President, Mycorrhizal Applications, Inc. Dr. Amaranthus has authored over 70 scientific papers on mycorrhizal fungi and their uses. He has received the Department of Agriculture’s highest honors for scientific achievement and been featured on several national television broadcasts.

To recognize Dr. Amaranthus’s achievements in mycorrhizal research he has 2 mycorrhizal fungal genera and many fungal mycorrhizal species named in his honor (Mycoamaranthus, Amogaster , Gastrosuillus amaranthii. etc).  Other awards include in 1996 the Secretary of Agriculture Highest Honors Award for

Dr. Amaranthus has published over 70 scientific papers related to soils, mycorrhizal fungi, restoration, and maintaining the productivity of soils and plant communities.  He has conducted research and presented invited scientific papers in England,  Italy, Spain, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, China, Mexico and Canada. He has addressed major policy makers and decision makers such as US Senators, Interior Secretary, and numerous regulatory agencies.

Dr. Amaranthus has been featured in major national and international television programs such as Modern Marvels,  Nature and National Geographic programs.  He is one of 7 featured scientists in the “Web of Life” a PBS program on biodiversity broadcast  in 43 countries.  Quotes from the scientist have been printed in national print such as the New York Times, Newsweek, Worldwatch, and Smithsonian Magazine.
